Tom Danielson knows how to climb, and the Colorado-based rider has taken victories on some of the toughest climbs in the US – Brasstown Bald, Mt. Evans, and Mt. Washington.
Despite being the best pure climber to come out of the US in recent years, Danielson has found it difficult to translate his skills into victories in Europe. Last year, though, we saw a glimpse of his true capabilities with his dramatic stage victory in the Vuelta e Espana.
Hampered by illness and injury this year, his last for Discovery, Danielson will be back racing next year for the new-and-improved Slipstream squad. I interviewed Danielson for PEZ Cycling News recently and the full story is here.
